Lieutenant-General Tsutomu Akinaga (秋永 力) (1893 – 26 December 1978) was a senior officer in the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II.[1]
He was the chief of the Maneuvers Section of 6th Division between 1937–1938, until being appointed as the commanding officer of the 75th Regiment were he served until 1940, when he was appointed chief of staff of 13th Division in China. He was appointed the commanding officer of the Infantry Group of 57th Division in 1942, before becoming the chief of staff of the 17th Army in the Solomon Islands with his headquarters on Bougainville in September 1943. He became the commander of the 6th Division in April 1945,[2] leading them in operations against Australian forces as they advanced south towards Buin, Papua New Guinea, with notable battles occurring at Slater's Knoll and along the Hongorai River.[3]
After surrendering, he was returned home to Japan. He died on 26 December 1978.
